Branch Elementary School serves students from the rural countryside near Arroyo Grande, located along the picturesque coastline of San Luis Obispo County. Sitting atop a rolling hillside scattered with Oak Trees and orchard patches, it’s a serene location for the small school which had previously made use of modular structures to accommodate the local students. However, the school recognized the need for a series of campus upgrades, primarily focused on the construction of a brand-new Multi-Purpose Room (MPR).

The Work

This project encompassed a substantial transformation, starting with the meticulous demolition of an existing structure, the installation of underground utilities, and various ancillary site improvements. Edwards Construction Group took the lead in self-performing critical early-stage trade work, involving underground utilities, concrete work, and robust framing. Edwards and our highly qualified subcontractor teams worked closely with RRM Design and the District to purchase long-lead materials early which enabled installation on demand according to the schedule.

The heart of the project was the construction of a modern, 4,960 square foot MPR building. This state-of-the-art facility boasted a fully-equipped kitchen, a versatile stage with a cutting-edge sound system, dedicated student restrooms, and a spacious multipurpose area.

The MPR serves as a dynamic space, accommodating a variety of school functions, including assemblies, a cafeteria for students, and indoor recreational activities on rainy days. This project aimed to enhance both the educational and community experience at Branch Elementary School, ensuring that the stunning natural surroundings were complemented by exceptional facilities for students and staff alike.

Notably, the project was successfully concluded in the summer of 2023, precisely within budget and on schedule. It was delivered in a timely manner, allowing students to eagerly embrace the newly revitalized space for the start of their Fall 2023 school year, where they can fully enjoy its benefits.
